Occurrence and Antimicrobial Resistance of Arcobacter spp. Recovered from Aquatic Environments

2021

Arcobacter spp. are emerging waterborne and foodborne zoonotic pathogens responsible for gastroenteritis in humans. In this work, we evaluated the occurrence and the antimicrobial resistance profile of Arcobacter isolates recovered from different aquatic sources. Besides, we searched for Arcobacter spp. in seaweeds and the corresponding seawater samples. Bacteriological and molecular methods applied to 100 samples led to the isolation of 28 Arcobacter isolates from 27 samples. The highest prevalence was detected in rivers followed by artificial ponds, streams, well waters, and spring waters. Seaweeds contained a higher percentage of Arcobacter than the corresponding seawater samples. The is…

Rapid antibiotic susceptibility testing on blood cultures using MALDI-TOF MS

2018

International audience; Antibiotic resistance is a major public health problem requiring the early optimization of antibiotic prescriptions. Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization-Time Of Flight Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) has been shown to accurately identify bacteria from positive blood culture. Here, we developed a rapid detection of Escherichia coli resistance to amoxicillin (AMX) and cefotaxime (CTX) from positive blood culture based on MALDI-TOF MS. Potential sparing of broad-spectrum antibiotics was also evaluated. We tested 103 E. coli-positive blood cultures. Blood cultures were subculture 1-hour in antibiotic-free rich liquid media before further incubation with and with…

Środowisko a antybiotykooporność izolatów Escherichia coli

2017

Materiał badawczy stanowiły szczepy E.coli wyizolowane z surowca mleczarskiego i zmieszanych odpadów drobiarskich. Ocenę wrażliwości izolatów na antybiotyki przeprowadzono metodą Kirby-Bauera. Profil oporności E. coli u…

Antibiotic susceptibility of the bacteria causing odontogenic infections

2006

Evolving epidemiology and antimicrobial resistance in spontaneous bacterial peritonitis: a two-year observational study.

2013

Background Current recommendations for empirical antimicrobial therapy in spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) are based on quite old trials. Since microbial epidemiology and the management of patients have changed, whether these recommendations are still appropriate must be confirmed. Methods An observational study that exhaustively collected the clinical and biological data associated with positive ascitic fluid cultures was conducted in four French university hospitals in 2010–2011. Results Two hundred and sixty-eight documented positive cultures were observed in 190 cirrhotic patients (median age 61.5 years, 58.5% Child score C). Of these, 57 were classified as confirmed SBP and 140 …
